I just got reminded on Facebook that one year ago today, I started my real estate journey with SRI - and what a year it has been! As a part-time real estate agent in Singapore, I have had the privilege of serving seven clients for eight transactions in both the rental and purchase/sale of both HDB and condominium flats over the past 12 months.

And what better way to celebrate my success and anniversary than to be named TOP ROOKIE of 2022!!

Throughout my journey, I've learned a lot about the local housing market, negotiating deals, and what it takes to make the most of your real estate experience. Here are 5 important insights I want to share based on my experience over the last year.

  1. Stay Organized: When you're working with a real estate agent, you want to make sure they have their stuff together. Besides paperwork, there's also scheduling viewings, managing critical timelines to and responding to messages. And, as a part-timer, it is even more important to stay organized. I use the calendar and notes function of my trusty Iphone (sometimes the best solution is also the easiest) to keep track of my to-dos and prioritize my work, so you can be confident that I'm on top of things at all times.

  2. Handle Pressure Like a Pro: The real estate industry can be fast-paced and stressful, but you want an agent who can handle the pressure. I prioritize my tasks, communicate regularly with clients, and take breaks when needed, so I can stay calm and focused, even in challenging situations.

  3. Keep it Positive: No one wants to work with a downer and in real estate, you're bound to face rejections and long hours (try having a day job and still go for viewings in the evenings!). But I've found that staying positive and motivated is key to success. I try and remember the reasons why I even joined the industry in the first place, set achievable goals for myself, celebrate my achievements, and surround myself with supportive people (like my mentors, colleagues and partner), so I can stay upbeat and focused on what's important.

  4. Build Strong Relationships: Trust is everything in real estate, and building strong relationships with clients is key to success. I take the time to understand clients' needs and keep in touch with them, even after a transaction is complete, so you can feel confident in our partnership. Having a good team helping and guiding you along the way (thank you to my SRI, QCD and Haus of Pride colleagues) is also critical in lasting in this industry.

  5. Patience is Key: Real estate can be unpredictable, things don't always happen as quickly as we'd like and are often out of our control. But I've learned that patience is key to success in this industry. I remind myself of my long-term goals, so I can provide you with the best possible service, even in challenging situations.

In conclusion, by focusing on these traits and using the strategies I've mentioned, I'm confident that I can continue and provide my current and future clients with an exceptional real estate experience.

Thank you once again to those who have supported me, one way or another, thus far. I wouldn't be here today without you!
